Application for BTI

For issuance of BTI, a certain completed application form shall be submitted by enclosing all information necessary for classification of goods. The application shall be prepared in the language of the member state in which the BTI has been requested. Currently in the majority of member states it is only possible to submit application forms in printed format. Also in Latvia the basis for issuing of BTI is a signed and properly completed BTI application. BTI application form may be obtained in the Goods Classification Division of Tariff Department of the SRS National Customs Board at 11.novembra krastmala 17, in Riga (tel. line 67111405) or printed out at here.

It is necessary to enclose a sufficiently detailed description of goods allowing the customs authority to clearly identify the item of goods as well as to state its classification properly. There are occasions when it is required to submit also the technical documentation, for example, specifications of goods or products, descriptions of technological diagrams used in production, booklets, certificates of ingredients, pictures etc. and/or samples of goods. Therefore prior to submission of a BTI application it is desirable to contact the customs authority in charge and to receive consultation on issues of interest. It must be stated in the application whether you would like to receive back the additional data or samples of goods provided, it shall be likewise stated whether such information shall be considered as confidential (unpublished).

As BTI is provided for the needs of international trade business entities shall certify that the procedure for import or export is actually planned, i.e., that together with the application also the supply contract or certified copy of such contract shall be submitted.
