Electronic customs (e-customs) is one of the most important projects of the European Union (EU) customs policy. The aim of the project implementation is to increase the level of security in the international trade and the facilitate completion of customs formalities as much as possible, accelerating movement of goods across the borders of the Union and reducing administrative costs.
E-Customs project is a complex package of measures which includes both the organizational improvements of the customs authorities and a number of new mutually connected customs information systems implementation in all EU Member States.
The new customs information systems will provide electronic data exchange between economic operators, the customs authorities of the Member States, as well as others in border crossing and in customs clearance process involved State institutions, thus creating paperless customs environment throughout the EU.
