The SRS launches its “In-depth Cooperation Programme”

In order to encourage better cooperation between the State and responsible taxpayers, SRS has launched the expanded State and Enterprise “In-depth Cooperation Programme”. The expanded programme allows small and medium-sized businesses to participate, and the number of benefits for participants has been increased. Currently, participants can benefit from a number of SRS privileges, but there are plans to expand the programme to include benefits from other government institutions as well.

SRS Tax and Customs Police Department uncovers two marijuana growing operations

In January, the State Revenue Service (SRS) Tax and Customs Police Department completed a series of investigations and revealed and shut down a group involved in marijuana growing and trafficking operations. Five individuals are suspected to be involved, two of whom are being held for questioning.

Marijuana Growers Exposed in March Are Transferred for Criminal Prosecution

SRS National Customs Board Prevents 24,528 Pairs of Counterfeit Nike Shoes from Entering the Market

Officials of the National Customs Board of the State Revenue Service (SRS), carrying out control measures at the Freeport of Riga, found a large amount of counterfeit sports shoes with the Nike trademark. Containers were brought in from China. The losses prevented for the trademark owner amounted to approximately 2.93 million euro.

SRS National Customs Board Prevents the Smuggling of 16.96 Million Cigarettes from Belarus

As a result of control measures at the border of Latvia and the Republic of Belarus, the officials of the SRS National Tax Board prevented the bringing-in of 16,963,740 cigarettes to our country. It was attempted to bring in smuggled cigarettes both by a truck and in railway wagons.

SRS Performs Ten Searches with Regard to the Illegal Production of Alcohol in Daugavpils; Licence Annulled for the Distillery

This June, the Tax and Customs Police Department of the State Revenue Service (SRS) performed a search at a distillery in Daugavpils, which illegally produced and sold alcohol in large amounts. Distillery’s alcohol production licence was annulled; three tons of illegal alcohol were seized; criminal proceedings were initiated against five persons.

The State Revenue Service (SRS) has created a yet unseen project in the Baltics for measuring the company rating: “Taxpayer Rating”. SRS invites entrepreneurs to try out the new tool at the stage of the pilot project and provide their proposals on improvements by the end of this year.

A Group of VAT Frauds and Money Launderers Stopped

This August, the officials of the Tax and Customs Police Department (hereinafter — “TCPD”) of the State Revenue Service (hereinafter — “SRS”) stopped the criminal VAT fraud scheme which involved seven actually operating companies and at least 50 fictitious companies. The amount of losses caused to the State budget is approximately 2 million euro. One person was arrested within the framework of the initiated criminal proceedings.

SRS Customs Officials Found 54 Million Smuggled Cigarettes during the First Six Months of the Year

During the first six months of this year, the officials of the SRS National Customs Board have prevented the smuggling of a total of 54 million cigarettes. Compared to the first half of 2017, the amount of cigarettes seized as the result of control measures carried out at customs control points increased by 29%.
