This June, the Tax and Customs Police Department of the State Revenue Service (SRS) performed a search at a distillery in Daugavpils, which illegally produced and sold alcohol in large amounts. Distillery’s alcohol production licence was annulled; three tons of illegal alcohol were seized; criminal proceedings were initiated against five persons.
Illegal activities were carried out by a group of persons according to a prior agreement. Alcohol was transported from the distillery by a minibus and delivered to two farmsteads in Daugavpils Municipality. During the searches at these places, SRS employees seized illegally produced alcohol, as well as belongings and objects which suggested the illegal production of alcoholic beverages.
Criminal proceedings were initiated regarding the possible illegal production, storage and transportation of alcoholic beverages on a large scale carried out by a group of persons according to a prior agreement.
Within the framework of the criminal proceedings, seven more searches were carried out at the places of residence of suspects, in vehicles and at the distillery.
Five persons have been recognised as suspects and have been subjected to security measures which do not involve the deprivation of liberty.
