On 30 April 2024, the project “Promotion of cooperation between law enforcement authorities in preventing and combating economic crimes in Latvia” co-financed by European Economic Area Financial Mechanism as part of the 2014-2021 Programme “International Police Cooperation and Combating Crime” has been successfully completed.

In the framework of the project, the Joint Digital Intelligence Environment, which already currently ensures the exchange of data of the Tax and Customs Police Department of the State Revenue Service (SRS) with the databases of the Information Centre of the Ministry of the Interior, has been built up. It is planned that data exchange in this environment will also take place with the State Police soon.

The new system will ensure a quick and efficient exchange of information in the fight against organised crime. The Joint Digital Intelligence Environment has been created as an advanced digital platform for the use of analysts, operatives and investigators of the SRS Tax and Customs Police Department to accelerate the progress of investigations and facilitate the detection of criminal offences.

During the project, the digital infrastructure was created, data analysis and object risk analysis systems were developed and implemented, the functionality of the Integrated Risk Information System was supplemented, creating a Joint Intelligence Environment as a whole. To successfully achieve the goal of the project, the amendments to legal acts were initiated and users of the system – analysts and special task experts – were trained.

The implementation of the project was launched on 3 July 2020 with the aim of developing a Joint Digital Intelligence Environment and training analysts and special task experts to facilitate the exchange of information between law enforcement authorities in Latvia. 2 197,000 euros were acquired during the implementation of the project. The created system will ensure modern inter-institutional cooperation – exchange of information in the field of economic crimes.
